Today we completed the first blower door test for air-tightness at the Abrahamson residence.
The walls are insulated with cellulose, the exterior sheathed and taped, and the windows installed and foamed. The exterior EPS insulation, wood siding as well as the drywall are not yet installed. This makes a great time to test the house as we still have access to the the air barrier layer to make any necessary improvements if needed.
We were hoping to come in around 0.6 ACH50 which is the Passive House standard. This number is difficult to achieve and signifies a very tight house. To our delight, the test came in at 0.56 ACH50 and below our target meaning no additional air-sealing will be necessary.
All of this is thanks to Tim’s diligence sealing the house and maintaining a high level of care on the job site. This will pay dividends down the road. As more layers are added, the house will only get tighter.
